I was checking out some sites and came across this one, which lets you check up on charity tax returns, so I thought I’d take a look at the various Gurdwara’s around Canada, or at least the big ones and see how they are spending, so without further ado here we go:

Some notes about the above
- The financial years differ for various Gurdwara’s, hence they are not all from the same annual period. The data used was that which was that for the most recently available.
- I’m not a accountant or anything close. I jus tried to comprehend and understand the tax records best I could, so don’t take the information above as fact.
- Money spent on Sangat category was derived from Section 5000, which had the header: total charitable programs expenditures.
- All the above data was obtained using the Charities Listing database tool provided by Canada Revenue Agency.
- Some of those Gurdwara’s not listed were not listed due to me not being able to find them in the Database.

Glidden mus have a souped up office, considering they spent $60 000 on it.
Man! These are eye opening figures! How are these funds being used to help spread Sikhi to the outside world?
Also, are any funds being used to open any charities, offer scholarships to Sikh kids, hospitals, schools etc.? Thanks for the post!

so, dixie does make the most money, but it also spends madd money on sangat.
So i suggets ppl stop saying dixie is the most corrupt gurdwara…..on the other hand, glidden 60000 for office supllies….someone needs to question that

Glidden is headed by mahants as far as I’ve seen…this just confirms it!
SikhsRUs..
Although their are yet no scholarships or other such programs instituted,
Recently the new hospital in Brampton has had its emergency wing named after Guru Nank Dev Ji. This was done after the Sikh Sangat fundraised about $200, 000 for its creation. I’m sure various Gurdwara’s contributed to this in some way.
Also as per charities, there is Guru Gobind Singhs Children Foundation which although independent, recieves a lot of support from OKD and Scarbrough Guru Ghars, so I guess this can count towards being a charitble expense.

Dixie Gurdwara has recently lost its charitable status according to a report in the Toronto Sun.
