Letting down our Shaheeds

Writing by shinda on Tuesday, 14 of February , 2006

We let down our Shaheeds. It’s no dark hidden secret, (although some may act like it is), we let down their families; in turn letting them down as well, how we let them down well its both a confusing labyrinth and a simple line, all at the same time. (Confused? Good, you’re on the right track to understanding what I have to say).

During the morcha little thought was given to who had whose back. The concern of what would happen to my family, although a realistic concern wasn’t something given to heavy thought. There was this thing called trust. Singh’s had it. They trusted that the Sangat would look after their wives, their children, their finances, their households. They trusted the fact that we agreed with the need for them to sacrifice their lives and they trusted that we were all on the same page; after all, it was this unison of thought that led them to travel the path that they did.

It was only a matter of time though, that those leaders who at one time were making promises to Guru Sahib that we will fight for the Panth and the Quam, later found themselves, scampering to the feet of the enemy, with their hands in the air, and tails between their legs surrendering to the same people they promised to fight against. They switched sides, even after all the promises and speech’s they had made. This led to the extermination of a few, while others were able to shy away from the bullets.

Secondly the political system failed us. The whole thing about democracy giving power to the voters vanished; instead it gave voters the option of choosing between two evils, the choice of choosing between two different executioners, the choice remained, how do you want to die? Blind folded or not? From the front or the back? Hung, or shot? Instead of fighting for our lives and making cases against our death, we instead started arguing about how we wished to die. We started debating amongst ourselves whether or not we would rather be hung or shot, basically accepting the notion that we deserved to die.

With all that ambiguity the question then fell on what did the Shaheeds who died die for? Was it all in vain? What was the next breed of Shaheeds going to die for? No longer were they dying in retaliation or fighting for the cause of freedom or self preservation, after all how they could be when the so called and self appointed leadership was too busy discussing and debating about how we were wrong and accepted that fact.

So again, that trust was shaken. Leading one to wonder now, if those who had given Shaheedi in the 80’s looked at the situation now, would they have given those Kurbanian in the first place, or would they look back and think like I’m doing right now that it was in vain?

Now don’t get me wrong. Shaheeds are honored. We give them statutes, name villages, and do Keertans, Akhad Pahts and write books in their names, but none of these were things that Shaheeds gave their lives for. They didn’t give Shaheedi for honor, rather they give it for a cause, a belief, and maybe its just me, sitting hear, living comfortably far away from the actual problem region, that can think so loosely and liberally. But even then something just doesn’t add up, which makes me think did we give in to fast to soon. Did we get scared off? Did we let our Shaheeds down?

Vah Vee Shindiya,
Shaheeds make the world go round. Sikhi was in need of some blood, the tree got some blood, but it’s lacking the sunlight(parchaar).

If sikhi is a plant, then in needs both to grow. Parchaar is gone, therefore the blood that was spilt did not get consumed to make sikhi grow further.

Not taking anything away from the shaheeds though. If they didn’t take shaheedi, I wouldnt be on this seat in Waterloo. Maybe it was guru sahib laying a foundation for us.

Parnaam Shaheedan Noo,
Shinda wake the nation! Wake it!

Most of us were very young or not even born to have done anything to help. As kids, we had no knowledge of 1984. When you start hitting your teen years, then you learn and that’s about 15 years too late.

Also Shaheeds fought for khalistan, and many of us living in a democratic nation, don’t feel the need for a seperate home land..

Whats done is done..Why disrupt the piece?

its still not to late, u can still support their families and send money to have their kids married and educated. thats whats needed most right now, to give people confidence that there families will be taken care of when they give shaheedi

tru say, we need to show more collectively than we have been, we need to send money to the families, but we also need to continue the mission.

Realisitically, Khalsa Raaj is not some overnight thing. The progress towards it needs to go thru stages. The first thing that needs to be done is become sikhs ourselves. Ok, we’re amritdhari, but that isnt good enough, each person needs to look at thier own rehit, their own nitnem, their own avastha, and be like “i aint nothing” and work on their own sikhi first. Than we need to get out and do parchaar….. “Gursikh sun, Gursikh sunaavai”
Once we start up parchaar we’ll be increasing our numbers. Simultaneously we need to be living up to miri piri and learning politics, learning how to use the media to our advantage, and getting true sikhs into positions of power.

Think logically right now, Punjab is messed up. Sant Samaj is messed up, SGPC alwayhs been messed up, AKJ got govt up in there. So clearly nothing can be directly be done there right nowm other than maybe pind to pind parchaar. The most use that can be made from pujnjabs situation right now is to educate ppl outside that all these jathebandies are being manipulated by egotists and other govt/RSS forces to cause un necessary rukus. As people who can see this from a 3rd person view point, we should be noticing that jathebandies are destroying us from within. Until this is seen, Sikhs wont ever get anywhere. Challlo, each person follows a rehit that is a little different that every other person, but until we stop looking at small differences and start looking at the big similarities betweem us, we are just asking to get manipulated by others. We need to get past associating ourselves with a jathbandee and start associating ourselves with the panth. Instead of our MSN saying DDt or damdami Taksal, they should be saying Khalsa Panth. Are we more proud of being Taksalis or are we more proud of being sons of badshaah darvesh Guru Gobind Singh? Instead of our banners at nagar keertan saying Damdami Taksal they should be saying GUru Hargobind Sahib gatka sahib. Are we more proud that we learned gatka from taksalis or are we more proud that cchemay paatshaah gave us the gift of gatka?

Now im just rambling on, so i’ll stop

but thinkj about tat fo reall

Respect to all shaheed, like the jagowal jatha said “dula koon ajaeen nahee jana dil joon palayka kud day” the blood that has been spilled will never been forgotton, so one should take that outta their heart.

As for mr. por khalsa panth, all ddts are sikh before they are ddts. The vast majority of shaheeds were ddt. It has become a fad to call yourself panthic nowadays like thats really gonna make a change, behind that panthic name you have people linked with someone regardless. Theres nothing wrong with linking yourself with an orginization.
I personally feel that majority of the sikhi that is maintained today is due to the existance of orginizations such as ddt or akj. It it very hard to maintain your sikhi without having sangat in a jatha, and at the rate these panthic ppl are going..they prally gonna have their own jatha in another 2-3 years called the panthic jatha..and wat maryada will they follow akj , ddt, sgpc, …so this panthic ppl need to suck it up and be realistic…stop hiding behind the panthic name cause you know ur with someone

They fought without any results. There was no result and blame is all we got, to throw on each other. Religion is for achieve salvation and to bring us closer to God. Live your life and take care of your families. There is no need to get into politics. Politics just ruin families, like it did in 1984. People died in big numbers without any results. Now it’s all tribal politics where certain castes are trying to gain lots of wealth on the names of those “Gursikhs”… Teach your new generation to become professionals and fight poverty. Western countries have given all rural Sikhs good opportunity to fight their poverty and they need to use it. They are not under debt here and sky is limit.

Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh

A nation which doesnt remember those that died for it, doesnt’t deserve to live.

To the last anon….I did write a reply to you, but it was full of anger so I decided to delete it. But just ask yourself, if those that defend the honour of their mothers and sisters, those that defend the rights of the oppressed, those that defend the house of god…those that gave their life so that you could live yours…did all they did really amount to nothing???
