For those of you who may not know, Satnaam Singh is a prisoner in the States and is being transferred to a prison in Florida. Florida State law however states that all prisoners must get their hair cut regardless of religious beliefs, so basically it would hold true for Satnaam Singh to undergo the same. The Sikh Coalition started a petition and seems to be handling Satnaam Singhs case, so I recommend that everyone take the 2 minutes it takes to sign it.
Something that’s been on my mind for awhile now is should Sikhs in jail receive special treatment over other prisoners, in regards to
their kakaars? Of course every jail is different so the rules that each has differs from place to place, but the rules are pretty
consistent throughout, since I doubt theres a jail in the world that would permit the Kirpaan.
If a person is amrtidhari and commits a crime such as rape, murder of civilians/innocent, or anything else that is blatantly against the tenants of Sikhism, it is more than obvious that the individual has gone against Sikhi’s core beliefs, so being stripped of their Kaakars isn’t all that unreasonable, actually it something I would encourage and be in favour of. After all, what better way to expose a Sikh rapist, murder or otherwise crook, then to shave them and paint their faces black, and make them rott in a cell.
But, what happens when a Singh kills someone who was more than deserving, or if a crime was committed that wasn’t really all that much of a crime. Is it fair then for that individual to suffer and be treated like every other prisoner or more importantly be expected to give up their Kakaars?
Looking at the jeevans of many Gursikhs in jail, many of them have made this sacrifice as they felt whatever sevaa they did to get into jail was worth the loss, and their separation from their kakaars may even count as being part of the sevaa, after all for such a devout Sikh to be stripped of their Kakaars is no small thing.
All jails (those that I know of anyways) ban Kirpaans, for the obvious reasons, but would the same Singhs have done what they did if they had to give up their Kes? If that was the case, I think the crimes committed would be a lot more brazen, or actions so grave that it would leave them in body bag versus being locked up with their head shaved like a sheep.
Anyways sign the petition, even though it may not change things, its still worth a shot.
As most of you probably the Canadians captured in Iraq a few months ago were successfully rescued by Allied Forces about a week back. All hostages were Christian peace activists, and the more that is revealed about the story, the more ironies surrounding it seem to pop up.
For instance peace activists saved by the allied forces whose very presence they are protesting against.
James Loney is gay, a secret kept out of the media to prevent any word of it getting to his captors who would have used that as a reason to kill him on site. (Last I remember homosexuality wasn’t looked to highly upon in Islam).
When I was working at the MP’s office, more then 80% of the people who called, emailed, or otherwise contacted the office protesting the Same Sex marriage legislation were from various Christian groups, however the fact that this was a Christian peace activist, whilst also being gay seems well ironic.
The news has for sure gotten back to those who are committing these abductions in Iraq, and after hearing of such things I can only imagine that their peers aren’t looking at them so fondly right now for letting those activists survive, so could this be the end to any future leniency that other hostages may have had?
I’ve constantly been hearing about people these days having a hard time finding that special someone with whom they can spend the rest of their life with. Usually I just sit back and wonder why people are stressing so hard but then again I’m hopefully 4, 5 years from having to give the topic any serious thought, but still why the stress.
People crying about how its hard to find the right person because everyone has too high of standards or in some cases too low of standards that they just can’t live up to.
Here’s a proposal, GO TO INDIA get married and drop it. Think about it, India has a population of 1 Billion+, so I’m sure that special someone is just waiting for you.
Now that I got everyone’s jaw on the ground let me clear some things up. Firstly I don’t see anything wrong with girls from India let alone guys from India. Sure most the ones you meet are pretty pervy (well Guys anyways), but still they cant all be like that, after all some of my friends and people I know are straight pindoo’s (actually they were born and raised in Taksal, so they as Pindoo as Taksalis can get, but that’s besides the point), and I’ve never gotten a hint of perviness from them.
But still people don’t want to marry them because they want someone who has a real job, puhlleeze..to good for a truck driver, and you say its the guys who got high standards..
Honestly though marriage shouldn’t be so complicated. Lets not over complicate things with the fairy tales, dreams and all that other crap we’ve been led to believe is needed for a successful and long standing marriage.
What one really needs is simple, someone that wont kill them, wont shit on them, and wont rob them, everything else is just extra.
Now before people take the above as a sign that I’m down to marry just about anyone or everyone hold your horses, for just a minute, because that’s not what I’m saying. I’m saying IF YOU are feeling desperate to get married dont complain about it, just settle for less, get a ticket to India and find someone who you know, even on their best day, couldn’t knock you out. (Girls I’m talking to you).
Personally I always get things with the extra’s, cars computers, I’m all about the bells and whistles so before you figure you got me figured out and want to send a rista my way ask your self the following:
Can you cook? - I hate cooking, so I need someone who’ll make sure I don’t starve myself.
Can you clean? - Yes I’m messy, so we need to balance this out with you being organized and clean.
Are you tall? - I don’t want short kids.
Can you run? - I don’t want slow fat kids.
Can you jump? - Yea I want a kid who can dunk before he’s in grade 9.
If you meet the criteria of the above, don’t hesitate to get in touch with my parents. Don’t bother getting in touch with me, since that will basically make me think your shook and scare me off.
Anyways I hope the above has helped any of you out there searching for that special someone.
Also please note, any hate mail you do decide to send me at least try at the very least to make it funny, and as far as the insults go, I’ll blog the best ones and we can rank ‘em, just keep them clean.
Not trying to promote Bhangra, but this was just too funny to pass up. I think they couldn’t find Singhs with full dhara’s so they had to add fake dhari’s to some of these guys, could be wrong, but some do look fake. Chulooo watcha gonna do..
For those who don’t know, Redwood is one of the many stores owned and operated by the notorious Cincinnati family. Its actually the store that our very own 7 ft Baba, AKA Giani Bhai Parminder Singh used to spend his summers working at. Most the stores are in pretty impoverished neighborhoods but Redwood is in one of the worst.
Anyways there was a stabbing at the store yesterday, you can see the article here, but in case it disappears, I thought I’d immortalize the story here. (Look hard enough and you can Basi’s car in that pic)
