A few posts ago I posted the Babay doing Bhangra video and someone commented asking me what I have against Bhangra.
The biggest thing I have against Bhangra is the commercialization of it. Now, not everyone will agree that’s a bad thing, after all its promoting and bringing Desi’s into the general public and all that, which is neither here nor there, but what we can agree on is that its allowing everyone the ability to hijack Bhangra.
Honestly I may not be its biggest fan, and I honestly really don’t have anything against other people doing Bhangra, I just don’t like other people making it look so bad. It was bad enough as a kid growing up, seeing drunken uncles two step to Bhangra, but at least they had the excuse that they were drunk. What possible excuse can these people come up with to justify what their doing as being Bhangra??

AHHAHA! No offense to these people or anyone else but I dont think any1 can do bhangra like punjabis. True punjabis. Its like in their blood or something. Its just sometimes sad when other people try, like hindus or even gore or anything, totally not trying to be racist here, Im sure eventually they could get ok at it. But it just doesnt compare to real punjabi people doing bhangra. Thas just something different . . . No one compares no matter how hard they try they just dont have it in them

It is quite evident that these people are not punjabi and therefore their dancing skills are not up to par. For a culture to grow, language must be transmitted. Bhangra, since played to tunes and punjabi words, allows for cultural expressions to be portrayed.

I am christian buddhist and dont know so much about sikhism, but I am very interested to learn more about it.
If I contact a Swedish sikh-organisation do you think it is possible to visit them, even if I dont want to convert?
I have so much respect for the sikhreligion.

ive seen punjabi hindus do better bhangra than bombay sikhs. ive seen bombay sikhs doin better garba than bombay hindus.yes, no one beats punjabis in bhangra and gujus in garba. they’re all our people. but yes, when they cant do bhangra and make a video out of it…makes me really really mad.
