Playoff Round 3
Writing by shinda on Tuesday, 23 of May , 2006
Ahh, back from the long weekend and no better way to start of the new week, then with another round of playoff predictions.
Firstly lets recap Round 2, arguably one of the best rounds of playoff Basketball in a long time.
Firstly the round shocker has to be Cleveland vs Detroit. I had Cleveland in and out in 5 (if even), but Lebron being able to carry his team to 7 made me into a believer that this man-child may just be the future, and will infact live up to the label of being the phenom. I have to also agree with Scoop Jackson, that this was a must loose series for Prince James (You can’t be King until crowned with MVP’s, and a championship), as he needed to experience the agony and pain of loss, to help him evolve to the next level as a player.
Anyways enough about that, its a busy day and we don’t have time to waste so lets first check up on how everyone did:
Gurdeep - 2/4 + 2 bonus
Harsimran - 3/4
Atam - 2/4
Gagan - 2/4 + 1 bonus
Gurjeet - 2/4
Cinci - 2/4
Mandeep - 4/4 + 1 bonus
JP - 3/4
Kamaldeep - 3/4
Columbus - 2/4 - 1 (You don’t post predictions when the teams up 3-1 in a series come on now)
Shinda - 4/4 + 2 bonus.
**Bonus points for predicting # of games.
So there’s what we have going in, but that was the easy part, now we’ll let this round separate the boys from the men.
How I see things:
Phoenix vs Dallas
I’ve been with Phoenix thus far, so I can’t drop them now. Every one’s been talking all along how Phoenix just won’t be able to hold there own, which they proved they could do regardless of Amare or Kurt Thomas in the line up so I’m going to back Phoenix in this one. Not an easy pick considering the way Dallas is playing and the fact that Dallas puts the D in defense, but we can only have one winner and I’ll have to go with Phoenix on this one.
Miami Vs Detroit
The rivalry continues, with another hard pick for this round. The X-Factor I think will come down to a healthy line up, and the mob boss himself, Pat Riley (yes the coach). I can see Shaq, holding his own against Wallace after all the experienced and elder shogun will prove victorious. Wade, he’s lost, he knows what it means to loose, he’s got the drive, the talent and the potential, but does he have the strength? This kid gets knocked around more then Tina Turner, so you have to wonder if history will repeat itself, but just like Flash always prevails in the comics, and with the Man of Steel himself at his side, I see Wade coming at this series with vengeance. If all else fails count on the Glove aka Green Lantern to help out in what ever way he can when it comes down to it. End of the day count on the Justice League aka Heat to take this in 6.
Now as always leave your predictions and we’ll see how you hold up. Gurjeet and Pindi I have to say you guys flopped in the past rounds considering the amount of gian you’re expected to have on this topic. Gagan, you’ve let your heart and hate for individuals guide you thus far, and your results are far from impressive. Considering the time you put into watching highlights, memorizing stats I expect more from you, but alass maybe my expectations are just to high.

Oh great shinda, We thank you once again for adourning us with these posts.
Gotta give your respect to Lebron and Duncan…….We are all witnesses..
The fact that dallas beat the spurs tells you how sick dallas is. Duncan was averaging 30+ ppg and they still lost.
Ah well, NO one wanted to see the spurs anyways…
West:
“They like to ride by. drive by, LA style”
The run n’ gun teams made the western finals. Might be the most entertaining series to watch. Trust Nash and nowitzkie, jt to put on a marathon of 10 second offensive sets.
I want the suns to win, but Big D is real tough..Im gonna go wth my heart on this one still..
Suns in 6…..
East:
Finally, the series that I was waiting for. NO matter whatn anyone says, the HEat wanted to face the pistons to extract revenge. a la 2001 lakers vs spurs.
the heat championship wouldn’t be the same if they hadnt beat the pistons..
Look for shaq and dwade to ‘do what it do’
GP, posey, Wade, haslem and Shaq add up to be a sick 4th quarter combo..
And the analogy to the justice league was wicked…
All in all Heat over pistons in 6….

Dallas
Miami
Once again I will go with my heart and hate for certain individuals. First off, the Clippers flopped worse than the Lakers, everyone was saying the Clips had a better team, this and that but atleast the Lakers held a series lead at one point even though they lost. I believe in the 3year plan of the Lakers thus this was a big step in the right direction. Now onto more important things.
West:
Suns vs Mavs
Mavs will take this series in 7 games. The Mavs also have home court advantage in this series thanks to a better record and a messed up NBA playoff seeding system. Kurth Thomas coming back from his injury will ruin the Suns flow. I have Big Dirk singing his way into NBA Finals. The Mavs quicker outside guards will give the Suns everything they can handle and vice versa with the Suns guards. These two teams match up well with each other but its gonna come down to how Steve Nash will do defensively against the JET and the young hova Devin Harris. Plus we get to read Cubans blog for another series.
East:
Pistons vs Heat
Since I’ve been picking with my heart these entire playoffs, no point in stopping now, therefore, I’ll go with the Heat. Heat in 7 games. Pistons took the Cavs too lightly and thus almost lost that series but the HEAT? Nahh they gonna play DETROIT BASKETBALL and lock down on defense and run on offense. However, that being said, Shaq aka Man of Steel will dominate and Wade finally hitting them 3s will help a lot. The Pistons will give the heat everything they can handle but in the end, Shaq wants his revenge and he’ll get it just like Clark Kent will bounce back for season 5.
So recap: Mavs in 7
Heat in 7
HOLLA at yo boy!
damn gagan…took your time…
I was waiting for that 3 hours ago……
Yessur Clark will bounce back…

OK, So far so good. 12/12 in the predictions.
Let me guess the easy prediction first.
Miami is on a mission and they WILL beat the Pistons.
The NBA is on a high, they finally have playoffs that everyone is talking about after so many years of either the boring *** Pistons and Spurs.
Go to this article http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=bayless/060519&lpos=spotlight&lid=tab2pos2
The NBA is a money making machine and they will not let the Pistons into the finals. Shaq will get calls in his benefit and the HEAT will take this game in 6.
West:
Now for a tough series. The NBA does not give 2 shyts as to which one of these 2 teams makes it into the Finals because they are both Fun to watch.
As fo rmy prediction I believe that even though I don’t care who makes it to the Finals from these 2 teams I would rather see the Phoenix Suns in the Finals and thus I predict they will make it in 6 games at home. It is rumoured that Kurt Thomas will be available in this series. He is not gonna be a much of a difference maker but he gives the Suns an inside presence they did not have. He can make some nice shots thus making the Dallas Centres to come out. I believe the Suns cant guard Nowtzki, Terry and the Mavs cant guard Marion and Nash. It is gonna come down to role players and the Suns making their 3’s. So I pick the Suns.
Suns vs. Heat in the Finals.
Cmon lets go 14/14.
V for Victory
“Akward Motion”
That response by Mandeep was just awkard.
mandeep man, wats with ur dirty language, im not voting for u no more
Phoenix (phoenix beats dallas in 6) vs Miami (miami beats detroit in 6)…
on another note… Raps get #1 pick!!
YOoooooooooooooo run a post on who the raps should pick, i wana hear everyones opinion. Word on the tdot streets is that Italian guy, who resembles Nowitzkis game wants to come to Toronto, and only Toronto. He might go back to Europe if picked by any other team so other teams are gona be cautious around him. oooh the benefits of multiculturalism.
I say Colangelo grabs a later pick 5-10 range, and a player in exchange for the 1st. He could grab Bagliani and a proven nba player. In that interview he already hinted he might do that. At the same time Mike James who? is leaving and as much as I hope Alvin Williams will make a Lemieux comeback it just aint happening.. and thats a big hole to fill.
Than you got Morrison who I hear is sick, and *** too.
omgogmogmaogmgomgogmmg im so excited and i just cant hide it. I couldnt breathe when I heard it. GODS TEAM.
All i know is for once I aint worried about what the Raps do. Colangelo is a smart man. Raptor draft picks in the past was like Charles Oakley touching the ball on offence..everyone would get all nervous n **** didnt know what was going to happen. So on draft day do not fret, Guru Sahib CLEARLY wants to see the Raptors succeed just as much as us.
“Once again I will go with my heart and hate for certain individuals. And the Lakers are better than the Clippers. ::rolls eyes::
PLZ U didnt even give ur 2 cents on the playoffs and whos gonna advance.
Colangelo is gonna setup an ill system for Toronto. We don’t even need to discuss that. But I agree with u that Shinda should do a post on who we should pick. Everyone should give their opinion and as to Y in another post.
Suns vs Mavs:
Kurt Thomas coming back for the suns will be huge if he’s still in game shape. Although he won’t factor in individually as much because the Mavs don’t have a dominant inside presence, he will help their overall defense. TT and Diaw are not legit legit power forwards let alone centers. Rotations wise defensively the center position is probably the most difficult position to get accustomed to. Neither TT nor Diaw have that experience. KT isn’t much of a center either, but he does have the experience needed to play it. To further back my claim that KT will help if in shape, the Suns allowed 107 ppg without KT and 100 ppg with KT in the regular season. Nuff said.
Moving onto the actual series. I expect the Suns to get a few favorable calls this series with their new poster boy Nash. With the recent criticism he’s been getting, what a better way to prove Nash’s worthiness of MVP than the NBA Finals without Amare. That being said, I still fully expect Dallas to win. Too much firepower. Ross and Livingston exposed Nash’s defense (or lack thereof), so there’s no reason to believe the Mavs guards won’t do the same times 10. The key will be slowing down Nash on the offensive end.
Dallas in 7. (Not because the Suns are capable of hanging with them, but the league will find a reason to suspend another player in order to get it to 7 games)
Miami vs. Detroit:
Miami in 6. Nuff said.
On the real though, I’ll get back to Miami later on. Too lazy now.
Like I explained to you earlier, I flopped because I was making picks on the basis of who I wanted to win, you could say I was picking with my heart, instead of really trying to predict the outcomes with my mind.
For example my heart tells me Vince Carter is the best player in the NBA, which ofcourse you can ask anyone is true.
Anyways here’s my picks:
Dallas wins in 6 games
Miami wins in 6 games
I regret to say I dont have time for a long post and game 1 of miami-pistons is already done but ah well.
miami over pistons in 6
mavs over suns in 7
And I too agree that a new post should be made about the Raptors first overall pick. That discussion has century mark comment potential. In other news, i read that Aroujo wasn’t Babcocks pick and that the braintrust at the top of the Raptors food chain unanimously voted to pick Hoffa. So now Babcock’s only mistake was the Vince Carter trade…
CONSPIRACY!!! Deep inside y’all know it was a set up by the NBA, nevertheless **** IS WICKED! My opinions are this: Trade the pick to Portland for next years #1 pick unprotected (This could happen jus, Portland is stupid enough) and most likely they will suck thus we might be able to get the next David Robinson. Or Trade down and get RUDY ***! ***! ***! ***! ***! This guy is NUTS! 6′9 can defend any position on the floor, forget scoring wise defensively hes a beast. Offensively hes soo smooth. RUDY! RUDY! RUDY! RUDY! RUDY!
“For example my heart tells me Vince Carter is the best player in the NBA, which ofcourse you can ask anyone is true. ”
AHAHHA come on gurjeet man, you know how that can cause a fire..
Vince Carter is the most gifted player in NBA History, I think he can score on anyone at will..
But that is hte problem…Will….
He hath no heart, thus him just being one of the best versus THE best.
BTW, Hook some of them cookies man!
BLASPHEMY!!!
nuff said!!!
The Raptors do not need another 7 footer. Well actually it might be great if Villanueva could play SF full time. The Raps need some vets in the front court now, guys that are proven to get it done. And with the number 1 pick you HAVE to go with best player available regardless of position. If I were the Raptors, I would trade the #1 pick for say the #5 or #6 and a vet big man and grab *** (I believe he’s a sg, no)?
All in all, the Raptors are in a tough position, you don’t want to trade the #1 pick and take the chance that bargnani or whatever his name is becomes a superstar. Then its Araujo all over again. But I don’t think there is any clear cut favorite in this draft so it might be smart to trade up. Who knows. I probably don’t even know what I’m talking about.
If I were Colangelo, I’d be talking to Minnesota right now. The #1 and Villanueva for the #6 and Garnett. Then with the #6 you pick up ***.
My Prediction:
Scenario 1: The Raptors screw up and draft a bust and still suck in the regular season
OR
Scenario 2: The Raptors pick up a good player (who puts up good numbers) but still suck in the regular season.
Book It!!!
HAHHAHAHHA! Come on now Gursimran, we know McHale is stupid but that trade you proposed surpasses Isiah levels. However, I do agree with you that Raps should get ***, this man is a SG, SF, PF. Defintely trade down, maybe with Portland, bring in Pryzbilla (Sam Mitchells buddy) and/or Jarret Jack as well (CB4s buddy).
To Portland:
Sign and trade Mike James
#1 Pick
To Toronto
Sign and trade Joel Pryzbilla
Jarret Jack
#4 Pick
You get a decent PG, a good shot blocker and rebounder and plus pick up *** with that 4th pick.
colangelos head on a pole if he doesnt draft aldrigde
“HAHHAHAHHA! Come on now Gursimran, we know McHale is stupid but that trade you proposed surpasses Isiah levels.”
I don’t think its as crazy as you think. If anything, I think Toronto might be more likely to turn it down. Garnett is 30 years old now. He’s not getting any younger. Toronto might not want to have anything to do with him unless they think they can win instantly with him and Bosh and ***. This is good for Minnesota because they would get an up and coming power forward in Villanueva and the #1 pick (the European) who could turn out much like Garnett in the future. It would work out for Toronto because they can still get a good 3 more years out of Garnett (until his contract runs out), and by then *** and Bosh could be a force together and maybe Graham can come into his own as an Iggy type player. That would allow Toronto to be competetive now and for the next 10 years.
I didn’t want the Spurs to win and they didn’t so I happy about that. Carter was a let down but then again it was an up hill battle like getting to my school. Pistons are just *** so Miami better win. I picked the Suns last year before the season started to do well and I’m still with them, therefore I want them to win.
WEST - SUNS
EAST - MIAMI
I’m going SUNS all the way.
west-suns in 7
east-miami in 7
Sorry I’m late, I’m saying Detroit and Dallas.
K.
“Sorry I’m late, I’m saying Detroit and Dallas.”
It’s ok.
Thank you.
