World Cup 2006

Writing by shinda on Thursday, 8 of June , 2006

I’m going to be honest (when haven’t I been), and lay it straight. I’ve never watched a full game of soccer or as the rest of the world likes to call it Football. I’ve played it, not to well mind you, but seeing as to how Mandeep went to the lengths of calling me and saying in his raspy loud voice, “yo guy write a post on it”, I feel nothing less then obliged to create this topic.

For those of you as ignorant as me to way it works (correct me if I’m wrong) you got several pools with 6 teams each. For the first while, each team plays within its pool, and from there the top two teams qualify for the actual tourney.

For more info on the teams and all that jazz check out the official site.

With that said here are my picks as to who’s going to win what pool:

Group A: 1st: Germany 2nd: Costa Rica
Group B: 1st: England 2nd: Sweden
Group C: 1st: Argentina 2nd: Serbia and Montenegro
Group D: 1st: Portugal 2nd: Mexico
Group E: 1st: Italy 2nd: USA
Group F: 1st: Brazil 2nd: Croatia
Group G: 1st: France 2nd: Korea
Group H: 1st: Spain 2nd: Saudi Arabia

Now I’ll leave ‘yall to go at it…

Brazil all da wayyyyyyyyy… France aint gonna make it nowhere with 2 of their stars injured… England gonna do good, but once again will fall short… Germany is supposed to have a pretty good team as well.. but they won’t make it too far..

Group A:
1. Germany
2. Costa Rica

Group B:
1. England
2. Paraguay

Group C:
1. Argentina
2. Montenegro

Group D:
1. Portugal
2. Mexico

Group E:
1. Italy
2. USA

Group F:
1. Brazil
2. Croatia

Group G:
1. France
2. Korea

Group H:
1. Spain
2. Ukraine

In all honestly… half those teams listed suck… like every other year its between only a handful of teams. The rest of the countries really don’t have a chance. Brazil, England, Italy, France and I guess Portugal are the big guns in FIFA… a few other teams could possibly be fighting for the 5th spot. I’m not a hardcore sportsfan, so I don’t know TOO much bout this, but those are the teams I like… in the end, Brazil is going to take it!

Heera Singh, last worldcup turkey and southkorea reached the semifinals so I don’t think that it’s going to be between a handful of teams. Everyone apart from Iran and Saudi and Trinadad and ofcourse Usa have a chance of winning it. Having said that ofcourse the cup is there for Brazil to lose. Heart says England, but I think Argentina will win it.

btw, Mandip Singh, if England finish second, they will have to play Germany in the second round - and seeing as you’ve done your research you probably know england haven’t got a very good record against the gerries.

Harsimran Bhai,

Waaayyy to much hating, espeically from someone who enjoys sitting through a game of baseball..

Now I aint a big fan of soccer, but come on now, baseball over soccer? Baseball has to be a sport with some of the most un-athletic individuals. Only skill needed to be a good baseball player, is superb hand-eye coordination.

baseball is the most variate sport in the world….but im not about to go big i up to the extent that people big up soccer….. You cant watch a basball game and get all hyped up about anything really…its calm and passes ur timr.

Soccer is…ball, player, net…..with no variable to think of…………..its much like hockey in that sense, but hockey is quicker nad has more action…..

dont get me wrong, I am not hating on soccer, im hating on the europeans….. they are ruining sports with their wining.

I recall many years ago Harsimran hitting homeruns with that mini yellow bat, than making us jump over the fence to get the ball, to be greeted by a big *** dog. And he would have the nerve to say “baseball is the fastest game in the world”. That comment sticks in my mind because I still laugh at it to this day. If baseball is similar to anything it is Marine Land. Watching that beached whale David Wells trying to get up after he got injured was absolutely disgusting.

We all need to stop the hating. Harsimran Sion, stop hating on Soccer (don’t act like you’re not hating cuz u are) and the rest of u, stop hating on Harsimran Sion because he hates soccer. And Shinda baseball is wicked. Not watching it on TV but if you attend a live game its fun as hell. Especially wen ur having a runing conversation wit a center fielder and shitting on white boys who sittin in ur row. and harsimran brasil is going to win the world cup, the new kid aka KAKAAAA is ill. him along with ronaldhino n ronaldo (yes hes still got game) up front is jus too dirty for anyone to handle. Now for a funnier not, FIFA wants to hold a world cup in Brasil but they like dem boys so damn cheap dwn there. they didnt say that in so many words but u no they meant it.

Plus I got no respect for you once every 4 year soccer fans, you know who you are, you dont talk about soccer ever, never wear the jersey’s, switch the channel if its on and never watch a full game, but all of a sudden the World Cup rolls around and you guys are the biggest fans in the world.

Actually Harsimran, we shouldnt even be hating this World Cup thing is just a phase. Its going to be done soon and everything’s back to normal agian for another 4 years.

You think we want to start seomthing?????

something has been started, post your real name boy.

As for the soccer having more skill than ball comment..your out of ur fricken mind…

everything soccer has so does ball…EVERYTHING (cept the diving, but hey you’ve seen rodmna play)

ball has even more….jumping (vert, one leg)
shooting (hand eye coordintion)
dribbling
Strength training
on top of soccer

plus I aint talkibg about how fit the soccer players.. Those mans run on avg 20 km a game, I havent run that much in my life, the soccer ref if more fit than anyone i know

Im talking about the game itself….

There are no variables to consider while watchnig the sport..no scenarios to ponder…its just get out there and try ot score…….

the game is slow paced, with the field being too big….teh refs blow too man whistles and the players fall down and act….

If you guys wanna talk some smack, put your names behind your posts

or are you mans possy like them soccer players??!?!

Yao Gurjeet it was a close one…….”But another one for the good guys”

Also, there is dribbling in soccer, except its done with the feet..
Shooting- also done in soccer requires concentration, coordination and plain old skill

On top of that.. soccer players run the whole field back and forth, compare a field to a gym, well theres no comparison

Too many “once every 4 years” soccer bandwagon jumpers posting on this blog….half the people saying brazil this, or england that, dont even know half the starting lineup for their so-called teams. Maybe if more people learned who soccer players are by actually watching the club games instead of by playing FIFA, we’d actually get to watch more then 2 EPL games and 2 championship games a week in Canada. Who knows, we might even start getting some serie a games on TV with english commentary.

European teams are very over-rated this year this year…. I think most’a dem gonna flop…. sweden, poland, england, france, they aint gonna go too far… a lot of the south american teams that weren’t on the map before at makin it big this year… ecuador scored an upset win yday over poland… and sweden couldn’t even score a goal against Trinidad & Tobago (no disrespect to them, but Sweden supposedly supposed to be a powerhouse compared to them)… England couldn’t even score a goal against Paraguay, they had to rely on an ‘own goal’ to win their game… Ecuador seems to have a pretty good team from the way they played against Poland… they’re pretty good down the middle, the only way to beat them is from the sides, which is where they’re slowest… they’re 2 main guyz Carlos and Delgado are pretty quick, and Delgado’s got a lot of experience as well..

Look for the south American Teams to take a lotta da gamez…
