N-n-n-n-New World Order

I was recently asked to comment/write about the victory of the youth slate as they won the Gurdwara elections for New Westminister Gurdwara, incidently enough I wanted to mention it before but being tight on time, never did get around to it.
Firstly, congratulations to those who won, and those who supported the cause. I don’t know much about the people involved, let alone the situation, but overall it seems like a positive change. At the same time the concept of a youth slate got me thinking more about things in Toronto and how a youth slate would apply here.
From my experience there hasn’t been any real conviction by the youth to get involved in the local Gurdwara politics, at the same time though I havn’t seen much need for it either. Most Gurdwara Sahibs, be it Malton, Dixie, Mississauga, Rexdale or Jot Parkash at one time or another do what they can to support the youth. That’s not to say there hasn’t been frustration at time over the amount of support given, or in what manour, let alone the politics played with who gets support versues who doesnt, but for the most part things seem ok. At the same time most Gurdwara Sahibs in one form or another have/encourage youth involvement, by having youth representatives work with them be it in the form of a commitee membership or simply as liasons.
Be that as it may, I’m still left to wonder what a youth slate in Toronto would look like, who would be a part of it, and how much support it would get, not only from the youth but in general sangat. For example take Dixie, the biggest Guru ghar in North America, and known for its elections. In Toronto right now there are 3,4 major parties that are involved on a political level in some shape or form running to run the big show. At the same time most youth in Toronto are in some way shape or form linked knowingly or unknowingly in some way to the above parties. In most cases its by family association while for others its a particular party that supported or continues to support them in one way or another even if it is just in the means of providing a venue.
Now with that as it is, several questions also come to mind in regards to any said youth slate. Would the youth really rally behind a youth slate at any of the major gurdwara’s? Would a youth slate be able to exist free of elders from one of the major parties not trying to pull the strings? and last but not least, would the youth be inept in understanding the larger demographic nature of the Gurdwara Sahibs, and compete with the elder generation on the same level.
Who knows, but there’s my post for the week..

BOOOOO
u fell off man, ur blog used to be as better than mrsikhnet to waste time on, but now ur worse than waterloossa
Now you also have to write about the school shotting in Montreal
waheguru…
to “G”
you’re right… there are probably only three or four people under the age of 29 on the committee right now.. but i think that was because a lot of young people got shy and didn’t step forward to be on the committee.. but now that it’s on, more of the youth will come out of the shadows and get involved
Shinda, I agree with the man up there, POST OF THE WEEK? You let us down man, you let us down. And damn G, how you gonna punk Shinda soo bad? Worse than Waterloossa, damn, that’s just plain cold and mean.
It’s not just important because there are youth running or it’s a ‘youth slate’
The Gurdwara has been around for YEARS and has had various gurmat camps and has fully supported the Akaal Takht in everything, they’ve totally supported the youth as well, especially compared to other money driven Gurdwara committees like that of dasmesh darbar.
What happened was, those funny moderate brothers of ours wanted to take this gurdwara over, because they saw weaknesses in the committee (it’s a small little homely gurdwara)… So they wanted to take it over and put in tables & chairs, make money, let moneh run the gurdwara, etc.
That’s the main reason why this whole ‘youth slate’ even came to be - to protect the Gurdwara from the wrong people running it, and to prevent beadbi from happening. It’s guru’s victory because the moderates wouldnt have followed any maryada whatsoever. That’s like moderate people going to rexdale gurdwara or something and taking it over, meaning half of the gursikhs can’t go anymore, cant have langar there, or do any seva in darbar, and maryadas not being followed. So congratulations, not just to the youth slate, but to Everyone..

the man ****** up big time
The guy is anti-religious; it would be dumb to associate him to any religion. He has clearly stated this on his blog profile; he hates religion, religious people and anything religious. Sikhi is different than other religions. You are not born into Sikhism, you become a Sikh. If your parents are doctors, you dont become a doctor, you have to earn that title. Sooner we understand this as a “Quam” better it is for us. Just a veechar
http://thepanthicotpreka.blogspot.com/2006/09/biased-media-coverage.html
Bravo to the media for once again presenting biased coverage.
Kimveer Gill, a youth of Sikh origin, went on a shooting spree on Wednesday, killing one and injuring 19 before he was shot dead. …
A young man of Sikh origin, who liked to play internet games about … 25-year-old clean shaven man, whose name was given as Kimveer Gill, reportedly …
The Montreal gunman, 25-year old Sikh, who killed one woman and wound 19 other … after a shootout with police, was a 25-year-old Indian-born Kimveer Gill who …
Now I would like to ask the media. Why didnt you report the Columbine shooting as the young Christians from Columbine. If the media wanted to be fair, they would report every crime by a christian as “so and so of Christian origin commited this crime..” or they wouldnt bring religion into it at all.
and now come on. Kimveer Gill, wasn’t even a practicing Sikh. This is ridiculous.
Althoguh, to be fair….i think it’s fair to say he’s of “sikh origin”..
i am of “indian origin”…i ain’t no indian, cuz i was born here in kannayydaa, but i’m of “punjabi origin”.
jus cuz dude ain’t sikh, there’s no proof to say that he isn’t of “sikh origin”.
but in terms of the broader scheme of things, i agree..bring religion in once, then it should be brought in everywhere. It was “Timothy Mcveigh — Oklahoma City Bomber”, and even though he was a devout christian and a avid church-goer, he wasn’t “Timothy Mcveigh, Christian Extremist Militant — Oklahoma City Bomber”…so the bias has been there for a damn while
dgn you are stupid…how can he be of sikh origin when he ain’t even sikh…dont play with words…but anyways that was tragic.
At most times its just stupidity on behalf of the media and not bias. The media usually aint purposely out to get us or something. But in this case, it seems pretty wack. If you look on the guys site it even says ethnicity: Indian. So I think the bias is obvious in this case.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHHA a valid point isn’t debunked jus cuz you say “you’re stupid”. Well done bud!
Finally the Rock has come BACK to Shinda’s BLOG!…
First of all DGN, it AIN”T a valid point to say that he was of Sikh origin in no way was his shooting spree related to Sikhi. In all fairness, I think if the media said “Kimveer Gill, a boy if Indian/Punjabi descent….” then that would be okay. But there is no NEED to throw Sikhi in there at all.
With Muslims it’s different though, because Osama and the like do everything on behalf of ISLAM, so they can indeed be Islamic Terrorist.
