Freedom of Speech…or Responsibility of Speech?

Its hard to write a post about the following clip. None the less it was posted on Singh Sahba Canada’s website, which seems to be a group which favours and supports the notorious Kalaa Afghanaa, and is a proponent for the Sikh Missionary College.
The following is from a scene that happened last week at Mayfield Gurdwara Sahib, in Brampton Ontario. The speaker is Inder Singh Ghugga, professor of Sikh Missionary College.
I’ve never been fan of a missionary college let alone had the stomach to deal with them. Since knowing about them I’ve just had this natural repulsion against them. This had less to do with there actual vichaar’s and more to do with the the arrogance in which they presented themselves when dealing with them in any sort of vichaar.
At the on-set Singhs made it clear that they did not appreciate Inder Singh Ghugga’s views and stances in certain regards. A book he had published challenged different philosophies sensitive to many in the Sikh faith. While some may feel this is in his full freedom of speech / right to present these views, others take it that a certain level of responsibility need be taken by that individual when presenting there views.
Although, I do agree it would have been better if vichaar was done and a debate within Sangat was arranged versus the protest, it was highly apprehensive that Inder Singh spew such remarks towards the Singhs knowing good well the atmosphere was already as volatile as it was.
At the end of the day I guess it all comes down to…”if you want beef lets get it then…you want peace I’m with it then..I dont start beef I finish it. yea dawg I’m militant”…

Just to note - Since the incident Singhs have been able to get together, and create a peace, having done Ardaas for forgiveness. It is rumored that several sit downs have also occured between Inder Singh Ghugga and various vidvaans as he mentions, and hopefully the recordings exist somewhere so to be presented on the net at some time.

he says baba deep singhs had was never severed, panj pyarai never actually gave their head. bani is just for knowledge not spiritual signifigance, and openly attacks sant gurbachan singh and others.
than when people approach him to do veechar he refuses to see them but on stage he says we should do veechar, so they are left with no other choice but to do simran in sangat when he tries to spread his filth.
if you want to do open parchar which is so controversial you better be ready to defend your views and answer questions.
mad respect to those singhs who did simran there reminded me of the peaceful morchas singhs did in the past, they kept there cool just did simran in sangat, its the missionaries that lost their cool and provoked a fight. be it by yelling at the singhs who were doing simran (the singhs had asked ghagha to do veechar before going up on stage, he refused), and than ghagha on stage touching provokative topics on purpose.
how can anyone support someone who doesnt even believe in the power of naam?

obviously ghaggu was jonzed to start beef, otherwise he wouldnt have said nothing, knowing that it was a hostile environment already. But the Singh never should of grabbed the mic either. If you think Baba Takhur Singh was a sant, then just read the astpadi of sukhmani sahib that talks about sant kaa nindak. What’s to be gained by grabbing the mic? That was DESPICABLE !!!! The simran was the right way to go .. but what was NOT right was when all hell broke loose in the Darbar Sahib. The singhs made it clear that they were not ready to listen to this guy but they should have left it at that and EVERYONE should have taken matters outside when stuff started getting out of hand. All the beadbi (like that guy’s dastaar fallin off and the yelling) in the presence of Sri Guru Granth Sahib coulda been handled better !! Seems like same **** .. different place as this happ’d in BC just a few days ago with ppl not ready to listen to ‘Dhandreean Wale’s’ diwans ……

congratulations to the singhs who planned the protest, and went through with it.
its suicidal putting this whole clip on the net though. very few singhs will get up and speak out when bad stuff is happening. by putting the whole of this clip on the net we’re incriminating our own singhs. unless thats what the person who put this up had in mind.
its only because there arent more singhs like this that these dushts can get on stage in the first place.

No matter how this is spinned it will look because of Sata. For those who live in the GTA they prolly know that Sata has a worse rep than a crack *****. And rightfully so, this guy has been caught stealing sangats money, he is a known chore and has been for many many years. Everyone hates his guts, just go to the airport and ask anybody there bout Sata and you will hear more obseneties than a Eazy E song. So the singhs might have been right, but that guy has a bad rep, and anything associated with him does not look good. he could be selling baked cookies for poor kids in darfur and people would be suspicious ( rightfully so)

“no matter how it spinned it will look because of Sata” - everyone else involved wasnt exactly striving towards breaking it up… what happened was inevitable, there were instances in which other singhs were holding back to do the same thing. The point at which something did happen was pivotal and only drawn to provoke something to occur, which made kala afghna’s aim successful.
The fools for the lack there of a better term, that invited ghagga should have been much more vigilant in preventing such an occurence….like they had said at the beginning “if the sangat does not want the baba on stage, he will not go on”- that should of been followed through. The negligence that followed prior to that,by the commitee members, in which the punk started talking **** was translation for ‘please put a ho in my ***’.
on a side note, anytime theres anything to do with the committee members, dirty politics come into play, rumours are spread which are 99% of the time just a waste of breath. if theres evidence behind the rumours the knowledgeable will bring them out- just as in government politics. from that don’t believe the **** talk, **** talk results in comings like the video above.

Wow, what can i say? don’t know what to feel, pity or angry towards people who fully lost their cool infront of maharaj hazoori. I think it was disrespectful to fight in the gurdwara-maharaj’s darbar.

I have a freind who lives in montreal, he is katha vachik.. he spent all his life with nirmala’s mahapursh, learning vidya from taksal and nirmala instituations.
I ll ask him if he can challenge these pseudo scholars on a larger scale in toronto. If he said, yes, then i ll invite sikh missionary biggest chela who is on my forum - name as “The Khalsa Fauji” .
If challenge went ahead.. then i defaniately need help of my fellow taksali singhs, making video, setting up discussion sort of environment.

Was that last comment really even nessessary? What did Baba Takhur Singh have to do with any of his katha?? You’d get pissed to if somone was to talk **** about your older brother who you were really close with and is now gone. True the Singhs shouldnt have reacted, but Ghagga shouldn’t have gotten time, let alone said what he said. Looks like both can share the blame on this one.

You can challenge someone’s vichaar by presenting your own vichaar but you can’t try to silence them with threats or just noise. I don’t agree with Ghugga, but he has a right to present his interpretation if the organizers want to give him time. There’s a lot of stuff Taksali Singhs say on stage that not everyone in the sangat might agree with. Same with a Singh with the AKJ. These are different interpretations of Gurmat. We have to have tolerance for it.
The solution was just taking time after Ghugga and putting out your own vichaar. The sangat is smart enough to pick the opinion that is supported by gurbani and evidence.
You can never convince someone or destroy an ideology with brute force. The only way is to pick it apart and show how wrong it really is.
On another note, if a young person not too much into Sikhi saw this, do you think they’d want to learn more or become a Sikh?
I’m glad the Singhs have done ardaas for forgiveness because it was just disgraceful what happened. Singhs picking up flower vases from infront of Guru Sahib and trying to throw them? Come on. At least the Singhs should know better than to do that.

no matter who said what, and in defence or in opposition of, this is no way to settle panthic matters. all this in the holy presence of Guru Granth Sahib Ji. with all the chants of ‘Waheguru’, it made matters too noisy and was bound to spill into what it ended up in. sangat is Guru-roop. then sangat should not have gone as far as knocking off another Sikh’s dastaar, even if he may have been wrong. that is not the Guru’s response. sangat should have made a decision to empty the darbar hall and refused to give audience to the person they were protestign against. and we want khalistan! we can’t even handle a simple confrontation in defence of our Gurus, Sikhi and of our Shaheed Singhs.

I really think they could’ve handled this in a different way. Very not good. Both parties could’ve acted more responsibly. Which one is Satta? I am not from T.O but have also heard much about this fellow - is he not Baba Thakur Singhs Nephew?
What I don’t get is why one of the Singhs (who also does seva of the Punj with Hardeep Singh and Co, I think his name is Gurpreet Singh) is saying on the mike that they are doing beadbee of Gurmanter, is he not one of the fellows who is protesting?
They should have atleast tried to speak with him off the stage before it coming to this. I don’t know why we always have to resort to violence and why those Singh’s can’t control themselves. Whatever happened to peaceful means before other means. Or were there meetings before hand that did not work out?

I cannot belive the behavoiur of our community. Is resolving conflicts via dialogue unknown to Sikhs. This is quite the example we are setting for our children. I see some very misguided kids sitting in the front on this video, they seem to be brainwashed by their parents who bring them to create problems at gurdwaras and the parents have the nerve to start fights in the presence of Guru Granth Sahib jee. I am surprised no kirpans were pulled out. Here in the Toronto area, there is another ongoing fued in the Hamilton/Dundas area where Singhs went into someones home waving metre long swords and caused alot of damage. The court has now banned the individuals from having any kirpan in their home. Is this the state of sikhi?, we are knocking off our own turbans, and getting kirpans banned. When a country or state says something about banning turbans or kirpans we all start making noise. I think its time we make noise for this kind of behaviour. Otherwise I see a very sad state for the future of sikhism

All of us consider and call ourself SIKH and read/listen Gurbani almost everyday and still have so much of hatered for our own brothers and sisters(shuch a shame), on one hand we read “eaek pithaa eaekus kae hum baarik thoo maeraa gur haaee (GGS-611)” , “aval aleh noor oupaaeiaa kudhurath kae subh bundhae(GGS-1349)” then we also read “aae mil gurasikh aae mil thoo maerae guroo kae piaarae (GGS-725)” are’nt we hypocrite.
Its a request to all members in the forum to please make comments keeping in mind Guru Sahibs teachings, everyday when Sikh does ARDAS he/she reads this line “Nanak Naam chardi kala, terae bhanae sarbat da bhala” is this line just to read or to follow.
I am not saying who is right and who is wrong I am just trying to remind the Humility Guru Sahib used and the rigidity/cruelty we have.

A whollee lotta **** went down… basically he was coming to a gurudwara.. not DASHMESH like last time.. and a few decided to protest his arrival.. one thing lead to another and more turbans were knocked off.. and at another gurudwara where he was supposed to come.. the same **** happened.. and eggs and beer bottles were thrown at that gurudwara… dhadrianwale came on the radio and said he still apologizes to the SANGAT for what happened before and any mistakes he will make but he will be leaving because he came to get people to wear turbans not to take them off…. for someone who knws the story better.. please share

Now thas the truth. Seems to me mans were just looking for a fight. The guy has his views, I don’t think he is against the panth or anything. What is wrong with thinking Baba Deep Singh’s head was not severed, a lot of people believe it was partly severed and he continued fighting while keeping it intact pretty much. Its a frigen opinion, let the guy give his opinion, whats it to you. As long as he aint saying something that is really anti panthic (dissing guru sahiban etc.) than let the guy speak his mind. From what I see the guy aint as bad as these singhs think, he just thinks DIFFERENTLY than the maryada you follow so everyone flips out. I think your article was a bit biased Shinda. i agree with jayzee, baba ranjit singh is legit. there is a sakhi about baba nand singh ji and baba ishar singh ji. there was some villager who didnt agree with what baba ishar singh ji used to say and called him a fake baba and he actually got into a fight with him and ended up punching baba ishar singh ji in the stomach a couple of times. this same villager couple of days later got a terrible pain in his stomach. he went to all the doctorsa nd he could not be treated. he then went to baba nand singh ji who replied in shock ‘oh your not dead yet!’ and few moments later that villager who disgraced baba ishar singh ji had fell to the ground dead. this is a good sakhi to relate what is happening with baba ranjit singh ji at the time. and to khalsa fauj, your doing harsh beadbi of Guru Gobind Singh Ji’s Taksal.
That video is very disturbing. If people didn’t want to hear the man talk they didn’t have to be there. If they didn’t want the sangat to hear him talk, they could have warned the sangat on the way into the Gurdwara. If the sangat stayed and listened and the guy stayed and talked, that is there own choice.
I saw a few kids in the front yelling ‘WaheGuru’ there was no ‘Simran’ (rememberence) in that. These kids just wanted to joke around, they had smirks on their faces the whole time. Who ever teaches kids to be obnoxious in the Gurdwara needs to teach a different lesson.
I’m not from Canada and I’ve never seen violence in or near a Gurdwara. It is really sad to see. Lakhvir Singh Ji is right, we talk about Khalistan and we can’t keep from hitting each other in the Gurdwara? The GOI must think we’re a bunch of jokes.

And about this Ghugga character. The people opposing him should not have reacted as they did. They shouldnt have came up and grabbed the mics. Evenhtough it is said in sikhi to fight against injustices and in this case ghugga speaking ill of Sant Baba Thakur Singh Ji and Sant Baba Jarnail Singh Ji, they should have not reacted the wya they did. Its as low as throwing eggs and beer bottles at Baba Ranjit Singh Ji at the Nanaksar Dera in Surrye. now that is despicable. And a lil question…which gurdwara in TO is the DamDami Taksal one?

i see nothing wrong wih anything written in gurbani path darshan, khalsa fauj, u just need to get rid of your preconceived notions that anything that contains anything remotely to do with something hindus do is bahmanvaad.
It’s funny..in the modern day scientists are finally starting to learn about the greatness of small rehits kept by sampardai gursikhs, but the majority of Sikhs are running away from these rehits and calling them bahmanvaad. An example…doing bani/simran while making food actually does affect the food at a molecular level and thinking bad thoughts while preparing food also has an opposite affect on the food at a molecular level…now go talk to 95% of sikhs and they’ll tell you that bibek is bahmanvaad

DDT i think you need to get your facts straight.Baba gurbachan singh himself said in his book gurbani paat darshan that if a sikh eats meat he should only eat jhatka. and then also taksal is very confused about this issue… the modern day taksal now days say meat isnt allowed at all. and when u read there books which are published by them and written by baba gurbachan singh bhindrawale it says that kutha means halal and right under that that they give rehatnama which says kutha is prohobited.

I would watch out for anybody writing or propagating this kind of thing. The start of the Dasam Granth is Jaap Sahib, which is part of our daily nitname. The full Chaupi Sahib is a gift from Guru Gobind Singh, and also part of our daily nitname. The British did interfere with many aspects of the Sikh Dharma including shortening banis, after learning that our power comes from bani. Tav Prasad Swayeeay comes from Dasam Granth as well, which is also part of our daily nitname. The beginning of our Ardaas comes from Chandi Di Var, which is also in the Dasam Granth. Guru Gobind Singh narrates his own journey in the Bachittar Natak, which is in the Dasam Granth. Every word of the Dasam Granth is from Guru Gobind Singh! If you want to debate on this point, that is your prerogative, I know this to be true and I will live my whole life and die with this belief. The Dasam Granth is so incredible and it is really a shame to leave it out of your life.
