It was on this day in 1984, that Mrs. Indira Gandhi was assassinated by her morally conscious body guards, Shaheed Satwant Singh and Shaheed Beant Singh, in retaliation to her orchestrating and conducting the sacrileges assault against the holiest shrine of the Sikhs, Sri Harmandar Sahib, and demolition of the Sikhs temporal seat of authority in the Sri Akaal Takhat Sahib.She was also charged and convicted by the bullets that riddled her body for carrying on a silent genocide of Sikh youth’s from across Punjab and India under guise of fighting terrorism.
Her death, frustrated and attacked the very core of the Bhramin psyche who foolishly felt/feels that they were and continue to be, untouchable and above any and all laws. In retaliation the Indian Goverment led by the Congress Party of India, and its Ministers orchestrated the genocide of Sikhs; slaughtering upwards of a tens of thousand citizens (within 4 days), all in a vain attempt to flex its might and regain any sense of authority and control over the region.
To this day the culprits behind the Delhi massacre’s have yet to be convicted, while hollow tip bullets wait patiently to pass judgment.

Seems like a good point to ask what sources people have read about the build up, support and rise of Jarnail Singh Bindrawale, the details of Operation Blue Star and the aftermath.
I’ve read a book by the Sikh General that carried out Operation Blue Star and found it to be detailed and informative. In it, he concedes that he didn’t expect the determination and siege mentality of the Jarnail’s ’soldiers’ who expected to die defending their positions in order to make an example of the Indian Army.
I would be keen to hear others….

I think this is a time to sit back and reflect on what we achieved through this whole movement. Did we as sikhs prosper even 1 percent. We were set back at least 10 years of development because of the whole movement. And in the end what has happened, have we got a Khalistan, are we united as a Sikh nation. We are a bunch of divided factions with no direction. We have gone elected a Congress government in Punjab many times since the same party was responsible for the killing of thousands of innocent Sikhs. Sikhs still go out and watch Amitabh Bachan movies, the same guy who was proven of paying the mobs killing the sikhs. What have we achieved?!?! Sikhs are fighting everywhere amoungst themselves. They knock of each others turban with pride. We all get together and do candle light vigils each year, but what have we done for the thousands of orphans and widows of the massacre. Nothing!!!!! Noone has recieved any help. What has Sikh leadership done for anyone of those suffering. Nothing, all we have done is opened thousands of more deras, and other gurdwaras as a business to self finance the committee members. This is a time to set back and think of what we have acheived in the past 22 years. In my eyes, we have gone back 30 years. It is time to get together and try to do something productive in the next 22 years. WJKK WJKF

You gota stop being so negative man.
IN the shortterm the movement had a lot of good effects. Sikhs showed that they got balls, even if they are outnumbered, out resourced and pretty much given no chance to win. Would you have been hapier if Sikhs just acted like bahmans after darbaar sahib was atacked and not done anything about it?
In the long-term, look at what the movement has done for Sikhs living outside of India…how many kids every year read stoires about shaheeds of 84 and after and get inspired to learn more about sikhi and eventually take amrit? How many amritdhari kids today were introduced to Sikhi through Sant Jarnail Singh and the 84 attack? How many people today continue getting inspired by hearing stories about gursikhs like Baba Manochal or Anokh SIngh babbar?
You seem to be dumping all of punjabs current problems of the fact that some singhs had the balls and fight against oppression…just imagine no one got up to fight, just think how much worse the situation would be today.
And yo, ur trying to associate people knocking pugs off with the movement??? If it wasnt for Sant Jarnail SIngh’s parchaar I don’t think their would be enough people in punjab that wear pugs for anyone to even worry about knocking someone elses pug off.

When Sant Ji made the following challenge to the Sikh Kaum, “You are not the sons of your father if you do not avenge the injustices done to your nation”, hundreds of thousands stood up.
At the moment those, ‘Sikhs’ which you are describing are those which sat down and did nothing. Today they are very few Khalsas, those souls which are pure both outside and inside in every thought, word and deed, not people like us who only have the external appearance.
No matter what happens, no matter how much they have to sacrifice the Sikhs of Guru Gobind Singh Ji Maharaj will always fight for the truth. They will always fight against injustice.
We don’t need no army. All we need is one Baba Deep Singh Ji, one Sikh of Guru Sahib who can single handedly fight 125,000. Which is why those true Khalsas remain gupt doing Waheguru’s seva and simran so that he can bless them with the word of Guru Nanak Dev Ji and the sword of Guru Gobind Singh Ji.
Forget 22 years it doesn’t matter if it takes us 1,000 years to gain our independence and punish those dushts of humanity. Sikhs of the Guru will always answer the challenge, “You are not the sons of your father if you do not avenge the injustices done to your nation”, no matter what.
