When the rich wage war its the poor who die, when the Akali’s wage war its the blood of the Panth that’s spilled.
For years now we’ve heard accusations of Badal being the puppet master, using the SGPC and the Akal Takhat to do his dirty work, but in recent weeks with the situation in Punjab, Badal’s grip on Punjab, the Panth and his true motives have never been clearer.
See as much as we want to believe that the recent weeks have shown the Panths ability to come together and group against a common foe, that the Singh’s in Punjab are tired of taking things lightly and are ready once again to rise up, the truth is far from it. Rather what the events of the recent weeks have shown is that Badal has the power to manipulate the Panth into serving as his own personal army.
Lets face facts although what the Dera chief did was wrong, it’s not the worst that’s happened . See as bad as doing beadbi and attempting to make a mockery of the amrit sinchar is, he’s not the first to do it. Mann Chand, the Naamdharis all beat him to that punch and have been doing it for a while now.
If it’s the fact that he’s a pakhandi sant with the guise of a Sikh, with multiple CBI cases against him ranging from murder, rape etc then again he’s not the first, there have been worse, Nang Phula, Mann Chand and countless other so called Babay who have raped innocent girls only doors away from Maharaaj ta Darbaar roam free in Punjab with seemingly full immunity, some even with Badals blessing and support.
If it’s the fact that his followers have hurt peaceful Sikh protestors leading to one Singhs shaheedi, then why is it that the likes of KPS Gill, Amita Bachan, Ashotoush and Noormalia, haven’t been asked to surrender, after all shirly they have spilled more sikh blood then this clown.
Why is it that a small band of “bhajangi Khalsa” a force that has been reported to be no greater then a few hundred young Sikhs, been placed in charge to deal with the Dera’s if they refuse to abide by the ultimatum set fourth by the Akal Takhat, knowing full well that the Dera and its followers won’t go without a fight. If this were to happen and a confrontation to ensue then the the Singhs involved would no doubt be outnumbered and made to give up their lives attaining Shaheedi, which could easily be avoided simply by increasing the #’s of these fauj’s. After all why sacrifice a drop of blood if it isn’t needed?
Now lets not also forget that Malwa the center in which the Dera has the most clout, reportedly voted 60% in favour of Congress as opposed to apparently having had a long history of being an Akali hot seat. Knowing that Badal has used strong armed tactics in various forms in the past to intimidate the electorate could this attack not be seen as nothing more then Badal merely flexing some muscle? It will be interesting to see how such of an effect on the polls closing of the Dera’s and everything else that has gone on, has next time around.
Lets not also dismiss the mixed signals coming out of the various parties. For instance the Hukamnaama for a full out closure which after realizing lack of jurisdiction to this regard has been re-evaluated to being a favourably worded apology.
The natural question that comes to mind after all of the above is why? What do the Badal’s and Akali’s have to gain from such actions. Well being able to coerce the Akal Takhat into making concessions does Badal not come out looking like the good guy the one who brought an end to the protests, exuberating the leadership expected of him? The cool head in a tense situation makes him look gold. Would sacrificing many more of our youth if need be not serve to rile up the Panth into a full out war against the Dera? Most likely the case, which again goes to server the Akalis more then anyone else. Why is it that the Dera is the target of all this as opposed to other individuals who have done the Panth more harm in the past 20 years? Is it because the others cooperate with Badal and are on his good side? Could it not be, because the Dera can be touched and the wrath of a few thousand poor is less feared then that of the political might that could be possibly felt if one went up against the likes of KPS Gill or Ashotoush? What about the fact that such actions serve to only strengthen the Akali party which Badals son is being groomed to take lead of in the near future. Giving him the party, after presenting the need for an Akali goverment in punjab, only serves to impower and ensure that the Badal legacy and tenure of terror continues.
I fully understand and realize that we could play the game of “what if” all day, and speculation is nothing more then hearsay with legs, but given the past history of the Badal’s and SAD, it would be ignorant and deviant-ly deceitful on our own parts to at least not look at the situation from as many different angles as possible, after all, “If you can’t see the angles no more, you’re in trouble.”

Gosh darn it, them Muslims are at it again, this time around though they’re pissed off at Pope Bendadict and the catholic clergy, after the Pope quoted an old text talking about how the religion of Mohammad aka Islam, being a religion so relentless in its pursuit of world domination that it’s either Islam or death, (sounds kind of familiar). [Mind you that the Pope was lecturing against the ideology of the person who said the quote and was using the quote as a reference as a point to his entire lecture, but that is irrelevant]
Undoubtedly this pissed off Muslims as they figure that the Pope called the prophet Mohammad a terrorist, which as you would expect would bring about the chaos that has ensued, but in the end are they not [our Muslim brethren] proving the quote true, by reacting to a quote that said, Muslims are violent, with violence?
Now don’t get me wrong, if I were Muslim, which according to the religious quiz on quizfarm.com I am, I’d probably be pissed of to, but then again that doesn’t make it right, let alone justify the violence, or threats of it.
None the less, thinking about their hypocrisy I came to think about Gandhi (the skinny bald headed one) and his remarks against the Sikhs, (Gandhi called Guru Gobind Singh a, “misguided patriot!”, and described them as a war mongrel of sorts), and about how we [Sikhs] reacted to that. History doesn’t seem to recall any outbursts, which brings to question why not. Off course there was the opposition against Gandhi, and I’m sure there were even protests, but seemingly those are lost in the footnotes of some history textbooks.
Fair enough, we’re bigger then that and got thicker skin then the Muslims, but didn’t Gandhi’s remarks not warrant widespread rage? After all, he wouldn’t have been around to get his beatings from the British if it wasn’t for Sri Guru Tegh Bahadaur Sahib Ji taking a stand or Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji who sacrificed his entire family giving Gandhi the opportunity to become the akirat kan that he was..
It’s in that, which lies the frustration that inspires such posts. Unlike the Muslims we had a legitimate beef, yet we chose to take the road less traveled, the turn the other cheek and keep marching approach. The approach that led us to bare the brunt of the sticks and stones handed out back in those days by the British, letting not Gandhi’s words hurt us.
It’s that swallowing of pride that finds a way to get under my skin and boil into the sheer annoyance that I am starting to develop against Muslims. Although I may respect there gonads when it comes to protesting collectively the way they do, the fact that they do it over the stupidest things is starting to lead me to resent them. They demand equal rights in secular nations yet fail to give the same rights back in their own. They openly denounce all religions day in day out, yet throw a fit when someone talks or even questions Islam. They are furious over the worlds negative portrayal of Muslims yet they do nothing to help make us think otherwise, and yet they some how day in and day out seem to justify there own hypocrisy, while denouncing all others.
Its that time of year again ,when every Sikh, Gurdwara Parbhandik, and Jathabandi takes a moment out of their normal routine and spends just that extra time to reflect on 84, the genocide, the fight and the attacks.
In Toronto, I don’t know about any big public programs, which is quite sad really, and the onus falls largely on us the youth, considering its now our turn to pick up the slack. Fortunatly not all the Sangat or youth are as lazy as us Torontonians when it comes to raising their voice at this time of year publicly, and it seems like the UK Sangat (yes I realize how hypocritical this post must seem considering last weeks post), have really started something positive. The 84 march/rally is definitely something that would be awesome if we could pull the likes of here in Toronto, but I highly doubt that the number of supporters and Sangat there would ever be replicated.
It would be awesome if we could get even a good 10 000 + people together and march downtown just to bring awareness in the media and the people that Sikhs are still bleeding from the terrorist attacks taken against us, by the Indian government, but just seems like every year less and less is done, which again is our fault.
Anyways for all you UK readers be sure to go out and support the rally, since every head counts, and the more people that walk, the more the community will make its point.
Last weekend SikhSangat.com (popular Youth message board) was hacked, and everyone (actually just a few blogs) were up in arms over this despicable act. After all WHO would do such a thing? RSS, Congress, CSIS was the silent cry that resonated in the thoughts of few, after all who else would want to destroy SikhSangat.com?
From past experience anytime a Sikhi based website, especially one geared towards the Youth, has ever been hacked, the culprits themselves were Sikh Youth. The reason behind many of these hacks themselves consisted of personal squabbles where individuals had gotten into a fight of sorts with the admin.
The most famous and notorious of these so called hacks in my books was the whole SikhSangat and partners departing from W!N, leaving W!N like Humpty Dumpty. That’s not to say that change maybe wasn’t needed and the whole split was probably and most likely for the best, but none the less, it wasn’t exactly the most professional of breakups.
Anyways, after reading this post, on a blog that has become known for its thought provoking, in depth and inspiring articles, (hopefully that’ll keep them from coming after me), I get the feeling that the SikhSangat hack wasn’t all that much of a random act, and maybe, just maybe it was revenge. Then again that can’t be confirmed, leaving it neither here nor there. I’m also more then confident that the W!N admin team, condemn such acts, after all they’ve been in similar shoes numerous times in the past.
Whats even more ironic though is that these websites (run by Youth) mimic the Gurdwara politics we see amongst the so called lost and confused elders. Just think about it; Group 1 and Group 2 all got sikhi parchaar as their ultimate goal. Group 2 feels Group 1 is not listening or cooperating and is pushing their own personal agenda so they book it and go off on there own, (of course only after trying incredibly hard to reconcile there differences, to no avail). Time goes by and Group 2 seems to be doing better, which off course takes the pisss with group 1, who now feels that group 2’s movement is detrimental to their own, which off course is to do Sikhi Parchaar, and for that reason Group 2 is now the enemy, who should at no cost be spared. At the same time it would seem that all the new attention and “power” has gotten to Group 2 and as prophesied by many power corrupts. Group 1 wasting no time is all over the scandals. The corruption of Group 2 is brought out to the forefront, individuals are defamed and made to loose face, and then it all repeats.
So end of the day are we really all that different from past generations who we despise and credit for dropping the ball, since we’ve clearly already started down the same path? Is it fair to ridicule the so called elders in the Gurdwara committee’s when in-fighting occurs, while we proudly boast that the new generation has a better grasp on things when clearly we don’t. End of the day Internet sites only make up a small if not minuscule portion in the parchaar that is done, so if there’s issues at such a low level of sikhi parchaar then what can one expect for the future?
Bring you parents, neighbors, kids, uncles, relatives, friends, anyone you can think of bring em. Why, because it is the least you can do. Just come, listen to Kirtan, listen to survivors talk, and learn something. In 1984, no one would listen to us, so having been in the same place, we owe it to the people of Darfur to at least take the 2-3 hours that the event is, and to listen, and learn about what is going on, because “Knowing is half the battle”.
This blog for better or worse is an extension of my procrastination and boredom. It's not intended to convince, impress or convert you to be anything more then what you already are, but if it does then more power to it. Do be warned that the time you waste on this site, will be your own and I will not in any way shape or form be held responsible in compensating you for your losses.
