NBA Picks - Round 1

Writing by shinda on Saturday, 19 of April , 2008

In response to the Sarpanch’s NBA Playoffs East & West picks here they are.

Firstly gotta start with the East because like Bigs said, “If I got to choose a coast I got to choose the East…I live out there, so don’t go there”

East

Celtics - 4 Games
Cavs - 6 Games
Pistons - 4 Games
Raptors - 6 Games

West

Lakers - 6 Games
Jazz - 7 Games
Hornets - 7 Games
Suns - 6 Games

The West without saying will be insane, every series possible is worthy of a conference final in the past. As for the east I think we’ll be looking at a Celtics, Piston domination.

For bonus points I’m giving the finals to the Celtics, even though I’d much rather see the Suns come out on top. If they can’t do it this year, I don’t see them being able to do it in the next 5, at least not with there current who have been making runs at the big show for the last 4 years.

Go Italy??..GO ITALLY!!

Writing by shinda on Monday, 10 of July , 2006

Well the World Cup wrapped up yesterday, to many peoples relief, and I could say I’m neither happy or disappointed. It was good while it lasted. Gave me something to talk about with people who I would have normally had nothing to talk about with. It also made for interesting radio, with the Fan 590’s Bobcat blasting soccer fans the world over for being the dumbest of human species on a daily basis.

Personally I made an effort to watch this year, and I was able to catch 2, 3 games, and to be honest they weren’t all that bad. Having had played soccer for the better part of the last school year, gave me a new appreciation for the sport, so being able to watch any random game that was on at a given time and not get bored like I was in the past was definitely a good thing.

Anyways the one thing about the World Cup espeically here in Toronto is that it gives a good number of people a reason to celebrate something. Now anyone who knows Toronto, knows that its got a huge Italian community, larger then all the desi’s communities, and on top of that the Italians are definitely a rowdy bunch.

Having heard so much about the rukas caused after an Italy win, a bunch of us decided to hit up Woodbridge and check out the celebrations. At first the plan was to just observe, but that quickly changed to actually take part, as we were able to put together a make shift Italian flag out of old dastaars and chuni’s. What followed was us driving down Highway 7, with some going as far as dressing up in tight Adidas tracks and acting like die hard Azuri fans.

The people (Italians), you could tell were shocked and surprised to say the least. Everyone was trying to cop a photo while many others just applauded and cheered and were happy to see us take part while others shook there heads in disgust as we blatantly hijacked what they felt was there time to shine. Anyways event went good and Gursheel’s camera really went to work.

Below are some images from the day, and I’m sure Gursheel we’ll be adding the many others worth sharing onto his blog, or even flickr account so check those out also.

Anyways holla atcha boy..

Give the mans some shoes…

Writing by shinda on Friday, 16 of June , 2006

The qualifying competition turned into something of a farce with teams qualifying then withdrawing - and teams already eliminated being offered places. India withdrew because FIFA would not let them play in bare feet. So only 13 teams participated in the final tournament.

World Cup 2006

Writing by shinda on Thursday, 8 of June , 2006

I’m going to be honest (when haven’t I been), and lay it straight. I’ve never watched a full game of soccer or as the rest of the world likes to call it Football. I’ve played it, not to well mind you, but seeing as to how Mandeep went to the lengths of calling me and saying in his raspy loud voice, “yo guy write a post on it”, I feel nothing less then obliged to create this topic.

For those of you as ignorant as me to way it works (correct me if I’m wrong) you got several pools with 6 teams each. For the first while, each team plays within its pool, and from there the top two teams qualify for the actual tourney.

For more info on the teams and all that jazz check out the official site.

With that said here are my picks as to who’s going to win what pool:

Group A: 1st: Germany 2nd: Costa Rica
Group B: 1st: England 2nd: Sweden
Group C: 1st: Argentina 2nd: Serbia and Montenegro
Group D: 1st: Portugal 2nd: Mexico
Group E: 1st: Italy 2nd: USA
Group F: 1st: Brazil 2nd: Croatia
Group G: 1st: France 2nd: Korea
Group H: 1st: Spain 2nd: Saudi Arabia

Now I’ll leave ‘yall to go at it…

Ottawa Choked…

Writing by shinda on Saturday, 13 of May , 2006

Looks like Ottawa choked once again, and this year it didnt even take the Leafs to bring them to their knees.

I could go on, but I think I’ve said more then enough. I’d also like to take this moment to dedicate this post to the entire Ottawa fam’ who spent the entire year trying to convince me on Ottawas greatness, (pshh so great they lost the series in 5..)

Now I could go on, but I think the truth and the reality of things speaks for itself.

- PS I look forward to your excuses.
